One single volcano can ruin your hole day!
Our "man on the Gulf Coast", Chris Malzone, just spent four days extra in Oslo as part of his last visit. We can only hope that his family will forgive us for not having adequate control over our volcanos. Our own sales manger, Ketil Horn, is stuck in S.Europe with tens of thousands of other travellers currently migrating north using buses, trains, taxis, and rental cars.
It is hard to look at images of empty airports without becoming a little philosophical about the whole thing. It is not that long ago that flowers were grown in the Netherlands (and not in Kenya), when fish caught in Norway was prepared in Norway (and not in China) and where a two-day business trip to Japan was unheard of. A little slower, certainly less productive, but not necessarily worse.
DHL, UPS, and TNT all report that they are finding alternative ways of transport so you can still assume that goods coming out of the Nortek system will reach its destination. We assume the old roads to China are being opened up and that they are finding ways to move cargo by sea to the US. In reality, there is no stopping us -- an ash spewing volcano is just a temporary set-back as we adapt and move on.
