With the release of the broadband Signature1000 (20m range) and the Signature500 (50m range), there is no denying that we quickly received requests for a current profiler with more than 50m range, but not quite the full-blown 1000m Signature55.
It is no wonder that the highly advanced features of the AD2CP platform are changing the way the oceanographic community thinks about collecting current data.
While the long range of the Signature55 in an unprecedented package has proved interesting in several applications, perhaps the most immediate response has been its utilization in simplifying data collection for Gulf of Mexico BSEE NTL reporting requirements for the offshore oil & gas industry. The key advantage – one instrument instead of two and easier servicing from a surface buoy to capture the ~1000m range required.
